Endeavour founder Maarten Desmet conducted research in Bhutan into Gross National Happiness, a development model according to cultural values.
According to this model, the government takes responsibility for providing the preconditions to safeguard collective happiness or well-being.
These kinds of value models, such as the Doughnut Economy model, offer opportunities for our society to tackle challenges in a systemic and holistic way.
Although the BNG is successful in many areas in Bhutan (education, environment, health care), it fails to translate this value model into urban planning.
Endeavour is an ongoing investigation into how to build such a value framework within urban processes with different stakeholders.
